Terre d’Aliviero is a wine produced from a single vineyard of about one hectare, which takes its name from Aliviero, the winemaker who first planted Sangiovese, and is one of the oldest vineyards in Poggi del Sasso. It was planted in the early fifties of the last century with the clones of the village, which were handed down for generations through the practice of grafting, selecting their quality year after year. The soil on which it stands is a fractured sandstone boulder, with a slight slope towards the south. These characteristics make it a wine of great class: elegant and with a long life. The average production of its grapes slightly exceeds twenty-five quintals per year, and is so small and of niche that makes this wine extremely sought after among the most expert wine lovers. Leonardo Salustri, owner of the company, aware of the vocation of his lands, was the founder of the Montecucco DOC in 2000, a denomination that is more successful year after year andis set to become one of the most important Italian production areas in terms of quality.
In the glass Terre d’Aliviero has a ruby color, bright and very clear, with light garnet reflections. Its floral aromas prevail to the nose: hints of lilac, wisteria and violets, which then leave room to ripe red fruit, such as morello cherries and currants; they are followed by more evolved notes of earth, desiccated leaves and musk. It’s a wine that increases its aromas the further it gets oxygen. In the mouth it is fine and elegant, the tannins are persuasive and silky, supported by a sapid and mineral sensation that is almost bloody. The wine is fresh and very balanced, a dangerous drinkability!
