In the heart of the Chianti Classico, Mazzei had the intuition of creating a monumental Super Tuscan. The Siepi, one of the oldest vineyards in Italy, owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, was chosen for its great vocation: the clayey soil gives deep and austere tannins and the abundance of minerals and limestone makes the wine savory and rich. Siepi is one of the wines that contributed to write the history of great Italian reds and is listed by Gambero Rosso among the 50 best Italian wines. The 2018 vintage was by far the most balanced and elegant expression of that territory. With an aging span beyond the twenty years, this wine makes happy collectors and wine lovers at the same time.
Siepi 2018 has an intense, impenetrable purple color. Its scent is heady and layered: small aromatic purple fruits such as blueberries, black mulberry blackberries, elderberries and açai, which then turn into chocolate, leather and sandalwood. In the mouth it is a luxurious, soft and warm wine, its dense and crisp tannins are counterbalanced by a sweet and harmonious side. Its finish is definitely long.
