Banfi was one of the first companies to believe in the international charm of Montalcino wines, ex-porting it and “narrating” it around the world. The result of extensive research, the Sangiovese clones and the Poggio alle Mura vineyard have been carefully selected for their extraordinary vocation. The 2016 vintage in Montalcino was an extremely balanced vintage that thus gave rise to wines of great elegance and value. Poggio alle Mura is aged for a long time in French barriques, which give the wine complexity and structure, helping to increase its aging potential.
Poggio alle Mura 2016 is a Brunello di Montalcino with a splendid ruby color, brilliant and limpid. The aromas that characterize it are those of violet and geranium, which then open and leave room to ripe blackberries and plums, followed by spices and balsamic fragrances such as licorice and to-bacco. On the palate this Brunello di Montalcino is still young and elegant, but decidedly structured and with good acidity. Its body is medium and the tannins are gripping, retro-olfactory sensations of va-nilla and coffee, with a good persistence.
