The vineyards that make up the grapes assembled for Piastraia were planted by Michele Satta in 1991. Satta’s vision was to produce a wine that could be faithful to the trail traced by Sassicaia and Ornellaia, but also to his personal vineyard vision and experience. Hence the need to combine Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with the grapes that he thought could better express the Mediterranean terroir of Bolgheri: Sangiovese and Syrah. Piastraia is a DOC Bolgheri with a unique character and sensational personality, which over the years has won numerous international awards.

In the glass Piastraia is of an intense and deep dark ruby, with violet reflections. To the nose it releases aromas of peony and old rose, followed by the citric notes of chinotto and blood orange, and again sour cherries. After a few minutes, the aromas turn towards warmer and spicier notes such as those of sandalwood, and finally amber notes. Medium-full body, juicy and flowing, deep but well integrated tannins, very elegant sip. Young wine with great potential, but already perfectly enjoyable.
