“Le Grotte Rosse” is produced with vines over 50-year-old, from a single vineyard located at about 400 meters above sea level, exposed to the beneficial influences of the breezes coming from the nearby sea. The vines have their roots in the sandstone boulder; these characteristics lead the grapes to mature perfectly without the need of chemical additives and major interventions in the cellar: the winery is indeed organic by its nature. Leonardo Salustri, the owner of the winery, aware of the vocation of his lands, was the founder of the DOC Montecucco in 2000, a denomination that is increasingly successful, year after year, and is set to become one of the most important Italian production areas in terms of quality.

The “Grotte Rosse” has a bright and limpid ruby color. On the nose its aromas are those of a basket of fresh and crisp red fruit: sour cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries, which then leave room for more ‘wild’ aromas, such as the bark, and sweet spices such as ginseng and licorice. On the palate it is a bursting, fresh wine, with powerful tannins yet with and excellent balance with the acidity, reflecting that sensation of crisp fruit perceived on the nose. A young wine but with an incredible potential evolution.
